I registered and I'm still here.

Last thing you need is for you to get denied a green card during the last minute because you didn't do this.

You simply can't become legal without doing this.

^ I agree but apparently there are people who think otherwise. I also registered a while ago.

FYI:

Simply registering with the Selective Service doesn't automatically mean you will be inducted into the Armed Forces. The Selective Service is a database of potential eligible males for military service. Congress has to actually authorize a draft in order for the President to even use the Selective Service system.

Even if a draft is authorized, everyone in the Selective Service system doesn't qualify for military service. There are many exemptions that people can claim to disqualify them from military service. Plus for all you fat ones out there, there is an initial medical/physical screening. So chances are, you won't physically qualify for military service, even as a grunt.

I, on the other hand, follow this training regimen every week

I believe being a national of another country instantly disqualifies you.

Another thing is that the draft works by drafting 19 year olds then 20...21...22... so unless you're 19 there's pretty much no chance of you ever getting drafted.

What if we don't agree with a war and we get drafted? Do we get a chance to object to it and do something else instead?

You could be like Romney and avoid going to Vietnam by doing Mormon missionary work in France. That coward's running for president and he couldn't even set aside time to serve in Vietnam. But goodness, if there's draft and you got drafted, just go and take your chances there... I would! But I'm not a guy so I won't get drafted.

Actually yes, one of the exemptions you can claim is "objection due to conscientous reasons" which is essentially objecting to serve because you don't believe in a particular conflict.

You can check this and other info out in the FAQs of the Selective Service website.
