Is this question asking if my mother will be a "Public Charge"?
I'm in the early stages of filling out my mother's I-485 form and Part 3 question 2 asks:
Have you received public assistance in the United States from any source, including the U.S.Government or any State, county, city, or municipality (other than emergency medical treatment), or are you likely to receive public assistance in the future? Nowhere in that sentence is the word Public Charge mentioned. a) But is it essentially asking if my mother will become a Public Charge to the Government? b) My sister is receiving Food Stamps. I'm not sure if my mother's name was added to the application form when my sister applied for Food Stamps (we all live together). I also read that Food Stamps is not considered a Public Charge. So when answering that question, do I check the "NO" box? |

Your mom very likely could not have received any sort of public assistance anyway without the relevant immigrant status. It would be a firm no.
