using a work permit SSN for FAFSA
 

Ok i'm really desperate right now, i have no idea what i'm doing. my fafsa was just approved by this community college i applied to and i'm not sure if i should go through with it, they've sent me a letter saying they received my application. i've been researching a bit about using the work permit ssn for fafsa and everyone has said its not possible i don't want to get in trouble.
my mom told me that if you get government help you wouldn't qualify to renew your work permit(is this true??) and i don't even have a job as is, its been really rough no one will hire me but that's not what this is about
can you tell me if i should continue submitting my fafsa? or send back the letter telling them to stop the process

You have to talk to the school, and state very clearly of your conditions. We are NOT allow to apply FAFSA, but as many points out that some colleges do use FAFSA application as a test for legibility for all sort of Financial Aids (some that we ARE qualified).

So, best is to call the school, explain your situation and see what they say.

Having provided false information in the FAFSA isn't going to prevent you from renewing your work permit. However, it will come up when you get your green card interview or your naturalization interview. If you lie about having Citizenship status in order to receive government benefits then you would be barred from ever becoming a citizen.

You need to fix the mistakes on the FAFSA. If you filed the paper form, then you will need to contact your school; if you filed online, there is a way to fix it online. We are considered non-eligible noncitizens for the FAFSA, but this doesn't mean we do not qualify for Financial Aid, Colleges and Universities use the FAFSA to determine what aid you can get.

No need to stress, just fix the mistake. You'll be fine.

Exactly. We are NOT eligible for aid from the FAFSA directly but you have to fill it out in order for schools (and states) to determine your 'need'. As long as you didn't put in the application that you were a LPR or a USC, you should be fine.

ok on the fafsa form i didnt put that i was a citizen i used the option that was 'eligible non citizen' but now that ive read some of the other replies im going to clear my data send back this paper telling them to stop the process and hope this all goes away sigh, this really sucks i should have looked into this more :cry:

Wait... You didn't look into it more ? Why would you apply for something you didn't look into more ? Did you also not look into DACA? Get this fixed ASAP

Their website showed those who are eligible. Citizens, Noncitizens: Green Card Holders, Cuban/Haitian Immigrants, Parolees, etc. We aren't in any of those categories, so we are not eligible for Federal Money. But Universities use the information to get state money or use their own (institutional scholarships).

You saved yourself a severe headache by not putting US citizen. It would have been terrible. You put eligible noncitizen, which you can easily say "I've made a mistake, I'm not eligible. I didn't know".

I believe they ask you for proof of eligible noncitizen status like a green card or an I-94 with a stamp that says Cuban/Haitian Immigrant, etc. So, the FAFSA can be adjusted then to "not eligible".

sigh im scared now, im going to the college tomorrow and telling them to stop the process and i just updated the fafsa application and put not a citizen after i tell them to stop the process is that the end of that or do i need to contact someone, thanks for your help by the way i was really lost and upset:(
