I've been there once while my daca was pending. I was a bit nervous about getting on the ferry because I thought they would check my ID but no one did. They have a sign where you buy the tickets that says ID is required and they may search your bags but I didn't see anyone checking IDs or ask to look in anyone's luggage. I think you'll be fine especially since you probably have a CA ID now.

I go there every year for a weak. I take the Catalina Express. Never have I had any thing near scary happen (unless it was rough weather). The only reason they ask for ID is to make sure they give the ticket to the right person. They check your bags to make sure you don't have any drugs or weapons. I recommend staying at the Hamilton Cove! They give you a golf cart. It's great!
