Help! Selective Service and DACA?
 

Hey, folks!

I received a letter from the Selective Service System reminding me I have not yet registered. I tried to register online, as suggested by the letter. For some reason or another, when I enter my information, submit it and confirm, I get a notice letting me know there is an error with the information provided (Social Security Number). One of the plausible reasons it states is the information is not yet in their data base.

Which brings me to this question: Are we. DACA recipients, also required to register?? And if so, why wont my information go through?

Should I just send in the form by mail?

Long before DACA, when I turned 18, I registered for selective service. If you live in the USA, whether legally here or not, when you turn 18 and are an able bodied MALE, you are supposed to register for Selective Service. I asked these questions to representatives of the Armed Forces who came to my high school, so I followed the rules, and did as I was told.

Interestingly I still have the letter from Selective Services after I registered in 2001.

I never got a letter and never filled one out. Don't ask, don't tell.

Hope you have submitted the form! Yes, we are required to register for selective service. We are required to do it before our 26th birthday by law. As far as I remember, I just got a form from the post office, filled it up, left the ssn blank (at that time didn't have one) and mailed it and got a confirmation letter.

Failure to register makes you ineligible to naturalize until your 31st birthday. So it doesn't affect you in the slightest.

And it's also a major offense by the looks of it. I don't know what they can do but everyone should do it before turning 26. It is the law.

They enforce it as heavily as they persecute people removing stickers from mattresses. If they let it go after 5 years when you seek naturalization, and accept registrations until you turn 26 (even though law says within 180 days of turning 18), I honestly wouldn't bother that much about it. They'll start caring if a draft comes, until then they have more soldiers than they know what to do with.

You're in the registration age - do it. You missed it? Whoopty-fucking-doo.
