Car loan through USAA?

Anyone have any experience with them? I've been a USAA banking customer for about 2 1/2 years now, but it won't let me even look at the car loans page without providing them citizenship information over the phone and I'm wary of doing that.

Any ideas?

I have not heard of anybody here using it. To save you some time do not go through Chase Auto Loan.

I was conditionally approved with a co-signer, but once you get the car they will ask for citizenship or green card.

Unless, you can convince them a work permit is not a work visa.

I will let you know tomorrow if my other car loan went through.

I agree with Chase! They approved me and I walked out with a new car just to hear back two weeks later that my work permit was not enough. Lesson learn I went thru my credit union and was approved in 2 hrs.

I was pre-approved today by PenFed 2.2% (citizen co-signer, do not know if this helped). They will send me the form via mail and arrive tomorrow. I will give the dealer this form.

I also applied through Capital One, receive an email saying they need to talk to me. Not wasting my time.

If you want 1.99% or lower interest, you need to lower your loan time to 4 years or below.

If you want 0% go with Toyota cars.

If you can get a loan with USAA right now I would do it. Depending on your credit they have super low rates (I saw them offering .99% recently I thought) with good credit and the discounts they are offering. You can also get some deep discounts in shopping through the Autofinder service they give, and that gets you a small reduction on your interest rate on top of what they offer you.

How did you get an account? You have to be linked to somebody in your family that served in the military. If it is your spouse by chance, you should just have them take out the loan in their name because you will save a lot I think if you go that route.

I don't know if telling them you have an EAD card would work, but I think it is logical to assume that it would and the worst that could happen is that they could ask you to close the account. You could also try calling them to ask about it without giving them your USAA number.

If you do get a solid answer, please do share what you found out because I am curious to know.

Re: Car loan through USAA?

I'm back.

I popped by the main office in San Antonio and the told me to go through their page/phone system.

I tried applying online, but it was blocking me from proceeding saying that I needed to provide citizenship information (it was showing the original info that I put in about being a citizen of another country).

I called in, but the lady on the phone told me that I needed to be either a USC or LPR to get a loan.

However, she updated my citizenship status to be a USC even though I told her I wasn't one. Now I can go through the website and apply for it that way. I don't want to do that since that doesn't seem right.

Anyway, I'm a USAA banking member because for a while they were offering accounts to anyone. Once I received my original EAD, I applied in person for an account and was granted one. I think they recently changed that so that only military members can join.

I could probably get my sister to co-sign me - she's USC/USAF/USAA, but I don't want to get her involved in my financial affairs.
