Studying for AP
Could anyone give me any helpful hints on studying for AP literature and composition. I'm getting nervous and my teacher isn't exactly helping me.

May god have mercy on your soul is about the only thing I can say...
I'm jk. How are you getting prepared? I remember taking the test some time ago... |
Re: Studying for AP
I took the AP for spanish literature and I got a score of 5 :). The night before I went over the literary terms (you NEED to know them) and made sure I remembered all the stories and what they were about just by going through every story in the AP list making sure I could summarize it by memory. In english literature, do you guys also have to read a list of stories? For me it was kinda tough because the list of stories was never-ending and you obviously are not allowed to look at them during the test, they count more for quotes (they have to be exactly) and I did remember some on my essay. Lol I remember I was the ONLY ONE taking that AP, the class started off with 6 people and by the end it was only 2 of us and only I took the test.

Re: Studying for AP
I can honestly say that I'm a pro at APs.
Lowest score ever was a 3. Took 12. Biology Calculus Psychology European History English Literature English Language Chem U.S. History micro Governement Environmental Human Geo. Pales in comparison to my school's val, and sal who each took like....a billion (online cheaters :x). KK. Done bragging. I wrongfully (according to me) got a 4 on both AP english exams, despite having pretty crappy teachers. For literature, just familiarize yourself with the classic novels that you guys read in class. Know them well. Understand them. Learn to compare and contrast them. FREE Response: When attempting to answer the prompt, make sure to understand it completely first. When evaluating a piece of literature, be sure to discuss specific rhetorical devices etc. etc. Don't ramble or b.s. That just wastes your time, and you won't get any points. You're probably going to have to compare and contrast some b.s. poems. Simply, do just that. Compare...and Contrast. There will likely be one essay where you have to draw upon a piece of literature to answer the question. THIS IS THE ONE YOU MUST NAIL!!!! IT IS BY FAR THE EASIEST. As for the multiple choice section... If my memory serves, it was REALLY easy. Merely reading passages, and the comprehending them. Not much more I can add. Overall...just relax. It's just a test. Nothing will happen if you fail - - well, you won't get a piece of paper award stating that you passed all your exams in about 3 months. lol. big whoop. |

As for the MC, well i was always just naturally awesome at that. You got over a month, just relax and practice all you can. if your teacher is not helping you, at least ask him/her to borrow some practice tests. The older, the better (older = harder). You'll be fine :D I got a 3, btw |
Re: Studying for AP

I assumed (wrongfully) that most high schools offered them for free. You are right, many students do have to pay for them. At my high school, they were free, you just had to be admitted into the course based on past grades, etc., and then sign a form when May came around saying that you will take the test, and if you don't show up, you will be charged (i think $13.00) for the school having to have ordered the exam or some b.s. like that. Nevertheless, AP is a great thing, and if you have the opportunity to take them, do so! Even if your future college doesn't accept your scores (like many Ivy Leagues) they still prepare you for college level course work. |
