Spitzer vs Vitter
As the allegations against Eliot Spitzer were unveiled last week (in astounding detail) and he was forced to resign, we were reminded of another politician who was recently busted for his links to prostitution --- David Vitter. Unlike Eliot Spitzer, Vitter refused to resign and still "serves" (I use that term loosely) his Louisiana constituents. In a conference call with constituents last week, Vitter bitterly defended his prostitution bust - claiming it was totally different.

However, Vitter isn't completely wrong.....there are some differences between his case and Spitzer's. Without further ado, we present the top 10 reasons below:
Because he says so. You see? Totally different. What are some other distinctions we can make between the two cases? Let 'em rip below! http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3...255/414/478611 |
Re: Spitzer vs Vitter
I have my own thoughts on this issue. Gov. Spitzer is a wealthy individual his family's money print ranges in millions, they move millions around the state of New York on a weekly basis. The media claims that financial movements, of up to $5,000, that were being made by Spitzer were "suspicious", and that gave incentives to the F.B.I. to investigate. I find it odd that a $5,000 money print is what led the F.B.I. to the prostitution ring, given that Spitzer has a money print that ranges in the millions of dollars on a weekly basis. O.K. Now the Vitter case. The Vitter case did not get as much media attention relative to Spitzer's case, the prostitution ring was in D.C. where our laws are made. To conclude, the G.O.P. targeted Spitzer for who he is, a successfully flawless democratic politician. In addition if it were not for the Patriot Act and all those other laws that undermine the constitution, the phone tap that led the F.B.I. to bust Spitzer would have never been flown in a court room. This our just my thoughts, take it with for what it is worth.

Spitzer was on The Colbert Report the day he made the call with the hooker, to set the date.

Re: Spitzer vs Vitter
I think this was just backlash by the Justice Department to aggressively investigate Democratic officials. Republicans are seriously concerned about the Democratic presidential candidates and the possibility of losing more seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
This smells like a smear campaign to taint the Democrats and trump the Republican "family values" card in front of the voting public. As the Republicans noted in 2006, sexual scandals rocked them in the months leading upto the general election and was one of the major reasons why the public voted them out of the majority in Congress. |
