A Fair and Legal Replacement for DACA: National review editors

It's interesting to see that people adamantly opposed to any sort of legalization are resigned to the fact that Dreamers and daca holders aren't going anywhere.

Quote:

During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to cancel the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy “on day one.” The president did not get around to DACA on his first day in office, and it’s now looking like President Trump may not get around to DACA at all. Recent reports suggest that the White House has no imminent plans to touch the executive action granting temporary protection from deportation to more than 2 million illegal aliens.
I don't know where they get that 2 million number from

Quote:

President Trump’s sudden lack of interest in rolling back this gross executive overreach undoubtedly has to do with the prospect of political backlash over a very sympathetic segment of the illegal population. But there is no reason why these so-called DREAMers can’t be accommodated in a process that respects our system of government.

Quote:

Republicans should offer legislation granting legal permanent residency to DACA-eligible aliens in exchange for congressional approval of the RAISE Act and nationwide E-Verify.
Put simply: This is a situation where everybody really can win — Democrats can get a permanent, lawful amnesty for DREAMers and Republicans can get steps toward a tighter, more rational immigration system. This should be the White House’s goal.

I think RACA has a really good fighting chance.

Curbelo says that there is growing consensus among Republicans to do the right thing.

I don't mean to seem like a party pooper, but a growing consensus could mean that we won't see anything until 3 years later or 7 years later etc...and then a bill that would give 3 years conditional status, and then a green card which is 5 years to USC...so that could be a 11 or 15 year estimate of USC status...but obviously some kind of status would be just fine to start.

I am just being realistically cautious.

Well, let's hope for the best.

3-7 years doesn't indicate a growing consensus .

Some of you are so negative.

I am far from negative, just very cautious, and living my life as best as I can with what I definitely have right now, which is DACA.

Hoping for the best always though...:-D :-D

I agree but positive vibes and thinking can go a long way . Who would have thought 3 months into a Trump presidency we would be in the situation we are in?

I think maybe they are estimating the total # of DACA eligible. Pew Hispanic Center estimates 1.7 million DACA eligible
