Green card through employer?
Hi, I'm 19 years old and I came here about 13 years ago. My whole family is illegal and we want to have my dad file for a green card through employment. We talked to a lawyer and she says it'll take about 4 years to get my dad's green card if an employer, such as a restaurant, sponsors him. This whole process will cost about 13,000 dollars. After my dad gets his card, the lawyer said he will be able to petition the whole family. Is this true? Is this good lawyer advice? Someone please help me.

Re: Green card through employer?
sounds extremely fishy to me. And it's not possible...I'm pretty sure you're going to get scammed.

This definately does not sound right.

Re: Green card through employer?
you came here on a visa??
if you came here on a visa and overstayed....I don't think you can get any kind of status adjustment unless its through marriage. I overstayed my tourist visa...I was told that, I cannot get sponsored if I am out of status. STAY AWAY from lawyers who say you can get GC through employment sponsor if your out of status because that is NOT TRUE. |
Re: Green card through employer?
beware the scamming lawyers!, we constantly here it on the news that these people aren't even qualified to work as attorneys. What you speak of is not possible and you will undoubtedly end up with a deportation order for your father . I would stay away, seek another opinion if youd like.

Re: Green card through employer?
Ahh, thanks guys... I can't believe my father was going to borrow money to give it to that scheming lawyer. I thank you guys so much for telling me this. I had no idea it would be a scam. =/

Re: Green card through employer?
i dont think you should give up yet.
as far as i know(my brother went through the same thing) your dads employer can adjust his status. and once he is approved for his green card...he then has to wait for five years(minimum) then he will be able to apply to become a citizen. after he is approved for that then he can apply for his family. but that only includes kids(dependants) who are unmarried and under 21. and of course his spouse. but im not completely sure on all the details. i would talk to other lawyers. |
Re: Green card through employer?
My uncle went through the same thing he has a green card now. He started working for a construction company in the 90's and he got his green card in 01.

Getting a green card through employment is not a scam; it is a legitimate means of obtaining a green card. |
Re: Green card through employer?
I can't say we know the full circumstances surrounding the Father but unless he is currently in status or is under 245i it is impossible to adjust within the United States, even if he came in legally & overstayed.
