Hi:) I'm new here
 

Hello everyone my name is Erik, I'm new to this community, and I want to introduce myself.

I have a few questions regarding in-state tuition for the state of ga, I'm aware that we are not eligible for in-state tuition or fafsa here and it sucks!, but I'm trying to go back college this fall and basically I'm not sure how to explain my situation to my college,

I'm afraid of what they will think, I wish I could move to another state but that's not really an option right now, is anyone in here from ga and went to college here? Btw what states are offering in state tuition for daca students, I would like to know just to keep in mind in case I will move in the future

If so I would like to hear from you guys what your experience going through that was , and also you can include what your major is and what advice you have for a first time college student. Thanks

Hi welcome! btw you gotta allow some more time before waiting for responses. I'm sure not all of the members check this forum on a daily basis.

I don't have a whole lot of information regarding what you're asking but I can provide a little bit of my experience.
Firstly, according to multiple news articles i thought GA did grant instate tuition for DACA students?

I'm not sure if that was reversed or such but in the event it was when you apply to college you're basically applying as an International student. You cannot claim to be a legal resident or citizen obviously only that you have "legal presence" so you'll be paying out of state tuition.

I live in NC, sadly its another state which does not allow me instate tuition, given that.. There is no way i can afford the cost of 4yr University. I'm currently in community college taking classes part time so I can actually afford it. It definitely sucks.

Keep in mind that even if you were to move to a state that does provide instate tuition for DACA students, I'm sure most would require you to be living in that state for at least a year before you could actually get those benefits. So plan accordingly i would say.

This comment comes of as condescending. Many of us here have gone to college, some have gone to get master's and I think a few PhDs. One thing you will learn here pretty fast is that members don't like lazy ppl. Google is your friend. I went to school in another state so couldn't help you even if I wanted to.

I apologize if I sounded rude, after having done some research it looks like I have to pay out of state tuition, I'm just feeling really anxious to be honest as I don't know how to bring it up to my. School that I'm "unlawful, I've always felt confused and thought that it was not fair how we got work permit,drivers license and social number and the government still treats us as "illegals"

So if anyone in here could give me some advice as to how to explain my situation to my community college, I'm just really anxious as to what they will think, especially with the new president,

also I've heard that fafsa doesn't help daca students but I've read in here that it's a good idea to apply, so my question is is it worth it to apply for fafsa? My college will probably have me fill out fafsa and it's going to be awkward to explain to them that fafsa won't help me
