Re: dental care question
Unless your job's insurance offers dental coverage, it's pretty hard to get it on your own. There are a lot of scammy "dental plans" that you buy from the dentists but they're not the same thing.
If you don't have dental coverage, the best thing is preventive care to avoid things within your control - most cavities and such. Floss like hell (I carry floss and a tooth brush in my work, car, etc.). That way if something out of your control does happen (like killing a root by night tooth grinding in my case that got infected 12 years later...long story), and you have to spend $1200 on a root canal, or something, you can at least say you did all you could. Also, if you live near a dental school, they might have a clinic for checkups and major work at a fraction of what a dentist charges, but it's all on their terms and schedule. I remember a family member went to the university of Louisville's dental school many years ago and got some crowns and they did very good work. I had a friend who went to dental school in San Antonio somewhere too and they also had a clinic if I recall. Other schools however only pick you if your issue is something a student needs to practice on. Even if you're a citizen, the dental coverage in this country is kind of fucked up. This is a VERY good documentary to watch: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/fi...-and-dentists/ |
