Backup Options for 2018
Hey guys - I'm a long-time lurker here and just decided to join.
I found a thread discussing back-up options last week but can't find it again. Maybe they need to put a sticky on it. Sorry! Anyways, just wanted to see what everyone is doing as a backup in case Congress doesn't pass DA. I am getting tired of the waiting game at this point. |
Re: Backup Options for 2018
Student visa - I forgot to add that in order to get a student visa although you have to prove that you will go back to your country - I know several folks (including family members from Asia) who were able to switch to a work visa after graduating from a Canadian college.

Re: Backup Options for 2018
Do you need a job offer first for Express Entry?
|
Re: Backup Options for 2018
No, you don't need a job offer.
I don't have one. And it doesn't give you any advantage. The only advantage is that you don't need to have proof of funds if you do have an employer sponsoring you. |
Re: Backup Options for 2018
Have they asked for proof of employment here? How much time are you given to find employment? If you get approved. Would you have to apply from the consulate in your coountry or go straight from here?

Re: Backup Options for 2018
The express entry gives you PR.
Use this forum for any questions you may have. 1) http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-imm...cussion-board/ 2) http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-imm...f-interest.54/ 3) http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-imm...tshell.394158/ The forum link also has a different discussion on how to find an apartment, condo and jobs. No, I am from Asia so don't have an option of leaving US and going there. You can apply directly from where you currently are. Just on initial application - please respond honestly and be truthful about have no status in U.S. I was honest about being on DACA. I entered with inspection and provided them my entire immig history in US. |
Re: Backup Options for 2018
Is there any other country that has this express entry-like immigration system?

Re: Backup Options for 2018
Yes, I have heard Australia and NZ have similar programs but I haven't explored them.
Worth looking in to if you are open to going there :) Good luck! |
Re: Backup Options for 2018
I have heard of previous Dreamers with US college degrees who moved to Australia/NZ....pre-Daca.

Re: Backup Options for 2018
Additional notes:
1)Correction on earlier...for proof of work: Yes, they did ask for proof in the form of last couple paychecks, tax return and a letter from manager or colleague (I did the latter for my last job!). For current job, just obtained a letter from HR thru our automated system and asked them to fill in necessary info. 2) I would add - Please respond honestly and be truthful about have no status in U.S. I was honest about being on DACA. 3) If you are serious about this....please know that the entire process takes about 8 months. Final app approval takes in 2-4 months. So it does require a couple steps...but you have peace of mind of having a backup in case DA doesn't pass. --->If you took French in HS- that really helps and adds quite a few points on top of your English speaking skills. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sending good vibes that DA bill passes...or it all works out in the end for us in the best possible way! |
