Canadian Colleges.

I have made up my mind that if the Dream act does not pass in 2009, I will just have to return to my home country. I know that leaving would maybe subject me to a 10 year ban from this country I have called my home for the pass 7 years, But if nothing happens in 2009 I see myself with no other chose.

I have been looking around to see what my plans would be if I return to my home country and I start looking into Canadian colleges I wrote one college via email explaining to them my situation and the Dream act. The adviser told me that the college does not care about your immigration status in other countries, they are in the business of education, I was planning on getting a student visa to Canada which would also allow me to get a job in Canada while studying and after my study I could apply for skilled worker visa to immigrate to Canada.

The most challenging part of this all the adviser told was how to explain to the Canadian immigration officer in my home country to get a student visa why was I in the USA all this time illegal, and she said to explain the Dream act would help a great deal.

I know it says like a long shot , but right now its one of many plans I have to consider if the Dream act does not pass next year. Their is a lot more to the process but the adviser from the college said it can happen.

Well it's an alternative but remember that you have to go back to your country to interview for the student visa. In the event that you're denied you're quite simply screwed because you can't go there and you can't come back here.

If you guys do decide to do it I suggest being REALLY REALLY thorough because I've seen some really half-assed ideas about things like this on this forum.

College don't ever care about new incoming international students ($$$).

But Immigration will care. Canada and US has a system that can check immgration status of Canada or US. I heard stories about people getting immigraion application denied because of illega stay in US. I don't know about Study Permit though.

I'm worried too. I was at Canadian Immigation recently. officer got curious about me because I spoke better English than average asian visitors. It started with.. "You speak very well. Where did you learn your English? Where are your families ... ... .."

That's why i am thinking about getting a master or even Ph.D before leaving this country. Just in case i got denied for a student visa to other country, i can still find a great job quit easy with master or Ph.D in engineering degree.
