Still waiting for replacement EAD. Should/can I send my renewal in?
So here's the story: I lost my EAD last year in Sept during hurricane Irma. I had just moved from Denver to Tampa and started a new job. I was still staying in a motel when Irma was heading over. It seemed like it was going to make a direct hit for my area so I hurriedly packed up my stuff and hit GA by some family. In that time I do recall me spilling over the contents of my bag but I thought I managed to pick everything back up.
Fast forward to November when I went to get a second job to save up some money for college and couldn't find my EAD. I saved up some money and sent my replacement application on Jan 10. Imagine my surprise when just a few days later they started taking in renewals. I figured I was too far out to renew anyways since I was good until April 2019 plus I didn't have an extra $500 then anyways. I did my biometrics on Jan 23 and just continued to wait. On March 1st my case status changed to an RFE has been sent. I got it on the 15th and it asked me to explain why I needed a new EAD, even though I had already explained that I lost it on the i765 worksheet. The RFE said that if the EAD was damaged send back the pieces or if stolen send a police report. Not knowing if lost required a police report and getting 2 different answers both times I called uscis, I went to the station and reported it lost and missing. I sent the report back to the via usps and according to tracking it arrived marc 19th. My case status still hasn't changed from an rfe was sent and calls to uscis customer service have yielded no results just them parroting back the same info I can look up myself. They said I had to wait a month from when it should have arrived in March for them to transfer me to a tier 2 representative who will look into it. I really want to send a daca renewal in but I don't know if you can have 2 EAD's in progress at the same time. I don't want to waste my money or inadvertently screw myself over and have my attempt to renew cancel out my replacement card and my renewal be cancelled because a copy is already being made. TLDR VERSION:Should I continue to wait out the replacement EAD and hope renewals are still allowed by then or should I try to renew now? Can a renewal and replacement be processed at the same time? I'm so conflicted/confused, what do you guys think? |
Re: Still waiting for replacement EAD. Should/can I send my renewal in?
Well...lesson learned. Always make sure to have your documents with you. I think you should apply. They are two different cases although when you are renewing DACA, the application asks you to send a copy of your EAD, so there is that.

Re: Still waiting for replacement EAD. Should/can I send my renewal in?
I put my EAD in the bottom of my sock drawer, nice and pinned to the bottom of the drawer in a secondary wallet, and it only comes out for jobs.
The secondary wallet is past it's prime, and thus is now retired from service. |

I laminated my EAD like the idiots that laminate their SS cards.
