Traveling to Mexico

Hello all!

It's been a while since I've been here. If you don't know or remember, I was fortunate enough to adjust through my USC husband. We're currently planning to visit Mexico since I haven't been there since I was 6 yrs old. I wanted to know for those who travelled and came back how the process was with Customs? It's a scary thought especially since being undocumented for such a long time has deeply affected me. For those who travelled back and forth, if you can share your experience with customs and especially what to expect, will be greatly appreciated!

You will have no problems coming back. I believe you must have a green card. You will be fine.

By the way congrats on having adjusted. Were you EWI?

I do have a green card, I was overstay visa. So, it was a straight-forward process.

My whole life I've been told to be scared and not leave the country, so now that I finally can those thoughts keep popping up in my head.

Did you adjust yet and were you EWI?

I am happy for you and I am sure you have been making the adjustment being legal now.

I am EWI, so my process will have some hurdles. I have not started the yet, but the fiancee and I will as soon as we get married.

I've had my green card since Oct and it's really been baby steps, because it's hard to shake off that "undocumented mentality". I think it's going to take a while before I can feel confident.

Definitely get that process going! I wish you and your fiancee the best!

I’ve never been but I’m sure you will be fine with your green card. I just got mine this month and I really want to travel somewhere to feel the freedom lol (sounds dumb but I’ve felt tied down my entire life).

Do it sooner if possible since the approval process is taking longer and longer.

That’s what I keep hearing. Maybe start in July.

You will be fine. I went to Mexico two years ago with AP. First guy who checked our documents was super chill. We arrived around 10pm to LAX and we cracked jokes on how we looked nothing like our passport pictures. Secondary inspection was mostly the waiting game. Two hours later they just stamped our passport no questions asked and we were on our way.

I’m sure for you it will be way easier since you will have your GC. Congratulations by the way and don’t forget to become a citizen once the time comes.
