RANT: Hating Gays > Helping Family

I have a few citizen friends and family whom I've asked to vote for Barack. Some of them said they would, but a few outrightly said they won't simply because "Barack's gonna let the gays marry." WTF? They know that Barack would help my sisters and me with the passage of DA, but I guess hating gays is more important than helping family.

Just another way God is screwing us over...

It might be a bit more understandable coming from older family members but coming from your friends...wtf?

i would totally rant about gay rights right now...but not the point.

Those family members need to get their priorities straight. Srsly. They care more about a stranger's way of life than your future.

Try to make them understand...

that's not God screwing you over. Opinion of few Christians do not represent the rest of the believers nor the religion or its God. Please refrain from saying things that may offend certain religious believers on the site, there are other religious believers on this site, regardless of their religion that may not appreciate that comment.

I don't see how Geronimo said anything disrespectful to you.

And let's stop the attacks on religion or religious beliefs. There's a lot of members on this forum that have strong religious beliefs and they shouldn't be attacked. Blame your family and friends for choosing something like opposing gay marriage instead of trying to help your family out; it's no one's fault but their own.

well since you live in california it really doesn't matter since the state will go democratic anyway, unless the democratic party or obama implodes for some reason.

Hey guys,

I have the same problem with my family, nearly all of them are citizens with the exception of very few (one uncle and our family I believe) And nearly all of them are not voting for Obama, because of the same dumb reasons, that he will support gay marriage and abortions. I talked to an aunt and convinced her to vote for Obama, but then again she was unaware of all the things that are going on, which upsets me in a way.

Sad thing is, they are really strong on that belief that they should never vote for someone that might support gays or abortion. How should I go about it guys? I guess I'll just talk to them but I hate it when they are narrow minded like some anti-immigrants that won't hear reason.

Worst is they are family!

Who ever said that they care more about a stranger's way of life than helping family is right. And it sucks.

A few cousins though they are voting for Obama, I guess it's the oldies that are set in their ways.

(abortions happen all over the country, and gays and lesbians live together and can even marry in some state (can't recall which one it is) so I see their argument to be very weak, but it's hard to make them see that they can do more to help family.)

it is quite futile... Abortion is already legal and not likely to be overturned, but some Christians still hold on to it and hope to reverse it. While gay marriage is only really allowed in Massachusetts I believe? But not all Christians are that narrow minded when it comes to voting. Lots of them simply don't want to mess with the political system, religion and politics really don't mix that well in my opinion. While I am both against abortion and gay marriage, sometimes I think that the federal law should be separate from religion, but I am really split in between. I do feel for you guys though, your families should support you guys and gay marriage stuff isn't really a big enough issue to fuss over... Most Christians out there are more focused on preaching the right way of life then enforcing it by law.
