Concerns about green card through marriage interview?
Hello All,
I've recently received notice for an interview for my green card. My wife had a few concerns about a few things. 1) She never changed her last name. Is this a big concern? We moved across the state to live with one another, we have a joint bank account, hundreds of photos, emails, texts, phone calls, etc. The reason she didn't is out of respect for her father and wanting to keep her last name to keep the family last name in the picture when we have kids. 2) Will they by any chance reach out to mine or her relatives? Being from another country, lots of my family doesn't know her as I have never been able to take her out of the country due to my status. Most of her family is also spread out across the states so haven't met every single uncle, aunt, etc. Therefore, will they be like "oh, to prove it's real, let's call her uncle (any relative) to see if it's real?" Thank you for any help/tips in advance. |
Re: Concerns about green card through marriage interview?
I’ve never heard USCIS call relatives of spouses (let alone anyone tbh). The name thing isn’t a strike against y’all; they may ask you about it but the answer you have here is good. The big thing is proving that you have a good faith marriage.

2. No. Literally only time your family would speak in support of your relationship would be before an immigration court as witnesses you invited. |

A lot of Americans nowadays don't change last name.
