Suggestions on Universities outside the US
 

Hey guys! Just wanted to share with you some options of great schools outside the US in case you're interested in leaving someday - If the US doesn't want you someone else will!! These are personal recommendations based on my internship @ the study abroad office @ my undergrad and from word of mouth (I have also left myself - I'm in grad school @ LSE)

LONDON
*The London School of Economics & Political Science aka LSE (World-Renowed for its social sciences esp. Political Science & Economics but other majors offered as well!! Major networking with Governmental agencies around the World especially the European Union) --> www.lse.ac.uk
*King's College London (Great for Medicine I have heard among other majors) --> www.kcl.ac.uk/
*UCL (University College London) [Top tier & many alumni pursue further studies @ Oxford for example]

UK [Note that ALL UNDERGRADUATE universities in the UK require annual tuition of 3,000 pounds max by law so very cheap - and undergrad is only 3 years and all Master's ONE year!]

Hey Ianus, could you elaborate because I haven't directly heard of it but i can look into it if i know what you're talking about ~ most of my friends are international @ LSE so i can also ask them about it..=)

Here you go.Although,It looks like it is starting in 2009.The points system was usually relegated towards work visas/permits mainly,but it looks like the UK is extending it to students.

about Canada, or any of these schools, if you get excepted first then apply for a student visa does that increase one's chances for success. Also, to you talk to the school to help you apply for the visa or are you left on your own?

Yeah the points system just sounds like they will want more proof that you really plan on just studying and nothing else. I don't think it will make much of a difference in obtaining a visa well other than proof that you can pay for living expenses such as a bank statement or loan receipt.

It might be different depending on which country you are from but my American friends studying in London said they didn't even have to go in for an interview to get their student visas, they applied and received it through the mail.

Yes I have heard the better the school the more likely to get ur visa because it makes it more credible that you are actually capable and intending to study and not using it as an excuse to permanently stay in whichever country you plan on going to

Usually you get accepted first then they give you a form which is sent to the Consulate. You are left to your own to get the actual visa but I'm sure the schools can offer advice since they are familiar with the general process. If there is an interview it is short I think, to study in the US for example I have heard of interviews being 2-5 minutes

ounce again great advice but here's a better question: if I have not such a good status here does that affect my chances of getting a visa or do I have to go through the process in my home country?

you don't have "good status" as in undocumented status or criminal record? You have to leave the US to apply for a US Visa in your home country but to apply for a visa for out of the US schools you can do it at ur nearest Consulate/Embassy I believe

Im not sure if the status will affect the likelihood of getting a visa, another member on this site said he got one to Canada - i think if u include why u were of undocumented status they will consider it it's a big difference if u were in the US illegally because u came intentionally at 35 than if u were brought as a baby
