2020 presidential election discussion
 

Want get a discussion on the presidential election going since there doesn't seem to be a thread for it yet. I'm going to assume that like me, 100% of you don't want to see Trump get re-elected. Trying to see what you guys think so far of the Democratic candidates.

For me, the single most important quality that I care about in a Democratic candidate is his/her ability to defeat Trump. I don't even want to fathom what another 4 years of this vile president and administration will be like. It certainly will not be good for the many of us that have depended on DACA for the last 8 years.

I really don't think a progressive can take Trump down because they won't be able to get enough crucial votes in swing states or sway many Trump voters. In an increasingly divided country, a polarizing candidate won't be the solution against a polarizing president. For this reason, I'm rooting for anyone other than Bernie or Warren. It actually concerns me quite a bit that Bernie seems to be leading the race. And it would seem that Trump and his camp (and Russia) want to see Bernie get the Democratic nomination and I can see why; it will be easy to label and attack Bernie as a socialist.

I think a moderate has the best chance. I wasn't sure which one before, but now that the field is narrowing after Steyer, Buttigieg and Klobuchar have dropped out, that leaves Biden and Bloomberg. I like Bloomberg, but he has not done well in the 2 debates he has been in, especially in regards to answering about previous sexual harassment claims and NDAs with women. And then there's the whole stop and frisk situation in NY that everyone keeps bringing up on him. So that leaves Biden, and that worries me a little bit because he's so gaffe prone and can't form well structured sentences in debates sometimes. But still, I'd take my chances with Biden over Bernie any day.

There is a myth running around that Bernie is polarizing, but he is actually the least polarizing of the democrat candidates.

Hair sniffer biden cannot defeat Macho Man "Cheeto" Trump.

The only candidate with real grassroots energy is Sanders, and if they cheat Sanders out of a nomination yet again the DNC will have trouble maintaining credibility when all the democrats that choose sanders collectively flip their shit.

Blame falls squarely on Debbie Wasserman Shultz for the Trump fiasco we are currently in.

I'm thankful that warren is losing, because whatever happens, we won't have to deal with a warren presidency. Ugh. Go back to your reservation.

Unfortunately in my patent pending DNN statistical models, Biden comes out the Nominee this tuesday. Ugh. 4 more years of Trump.

Buuuuut we'll all be either sick or dying from Coronavirus real soon, so sit back, open a corona, and watch the world go up in flames.

Bernie has some pretty radical propositions that don't exactly sit well with moderate to conservative people. I agree that he has the best grassroots campaign and an energy that the other candidates lack. In any other election where so much wasn't at stake, I'd root for Bernie. But there's no way I see him beating Trump when he's too far to the left to win swing voters.

Prepare for four more years of Trump.

Too much in-fighting on the Dem end of things just like fours years ago. The candidates are not stellar or electable.

People do not seem to understand that this is a time to defeat Trump at whatever cost necessary, not a time to chase controversial pipe dreams like free health care and forgiveness of student debt.

Biden would be the best chance we got, but even then... I am not hopeful.

President Trump will win re-election. As long as the Democrats keep concentrating on climate change, more regulations, higher taxes, gun control and open borders, they won’t be winning anything any time soon.

Not every state wants to live like California or New York and they fail to realize that. They campaign for the popular vote rather than the electoral college.

Would you say Hillary was a polarizing president? I'm guessing not. And yet she lost to the most polarizing candidate (trump).

But that's exactly why trump won. Like it or not, those are the issues that affect a large majority of citizens. Not Daca or border policies. Why should anyone who's not a staunch conservative go out and vote if the democratic candidate doesn't bring any meaningful policies to the table. The status quo lost 4 years ago.

Hillery was very polarizing. So many Bernie supporters just didn't go vote for her and instead stayed home.


Democrats need to reconnect with their centrist voters, while also courting the left wing. Many gains were made in red States with conservative Democrats.

Biden has a better chance than the Bernie Bros. Biden has the black vote and Obama is yet to come out to the spot light for sleepy Joe. I can not vote so my opinion is as good as a gluten free pizza.

Sanders, Biden or Trump? Who has the best chance to pass CIR? Most likely we would need both majority either GOP or Dems in Senate/House.

Hillary was absolutely polarizing; this is why orange dick-head got elected. A lot of people felt like they were choosing between bad and worse and simply did not vote.

Biden is the best bet against Trump but the big risk is that he'll f*ck it up by being Biden. He can't talk coherently at times or will say some outlandish thing. It's not like Trump sets a high bar on expression though. But Trump is a nasty bully and Biden has to be able to spar with him.

And yes, none of us can vote but most of us sure do know people that can.
