Economic concerns over Covid-19

With the economy coming to a standstill, the layoffs and furloughs are happening. Especially for the travel and hospitality and food and beverage industries. My friend told me she got furloughed and I was expressing concern for her but she said she isn’t worried because she can file for unemployment and food stamps and I’m over here thinking, well shit, I don’t have that kind of safety net. Anyone else concerned? What are your plans?

My concerns would be, them not be able to process our renewals on time. I work for UPS and we are not closing anytime soon.

If you have valid employment authorization you qualify for unemployment, for as long as the employment authorization remains valid. This is true in California and Nevada. Other states might be different. Search eligibility under your state. Also, congress might pass a bill to send each “american” 3500 dollars in two paychecks. Based on the draft floating around on the internet. You’ll get this as long as you file 2019 taxes.

Unemployment benefit isn't considered as public charge, please check your shit before posting. Thanks.

"The guidance explicitly excluded Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, unemployment insurance, housing benefits, child care subsidies, or other non-cash benefits from qualifying immigrants as public charges"

Not concern about losing my job but all the money I’ve lost in the stock market. Currently don’t have an emergency fund :/

Lost a few thousand too. Just know that we can claim up to $3000 of our losses every year until we get all our money back.

That’s what am worried about, we’re already on pins and needles awaiting a SCOTUS ruling and now people who are approaching their 150 day mark may be delayed even more.

You haven’t realized any losses unless you sell!
