Acting Homeland Security chief defends new limits on DACA

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf told lawmakers Thursday he stands by the Trump administration decision to limit the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program following the Supreme Court's decision in June.

"In no way did the Supreme Court decision tell the department to process new DACA applicants," Wolf told the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

Late last month, Wolf issued a memo saying that new applications for DACA, the Obama-era program that shields certain undocumented immigrants from deportation, would not be accepted and renewals would be limited to one year instead of two amid an ongoing review.

"We have ongoing serious concerns about this program," Wolf said Thursday, adding that the administration is continuing to review the program.

Wolf's memo is the third the Trump administration has issued in an attempt to rescind the program, though Wolf stopped short of terminating it altogether for now.

"I have concluded that the DACA policy, at a minimum, presents serious policy concerns that may warrant its full rescission," Wolf wrote, adding that the onus remains on Congress to act.

Wolf justified the decision to reject new applicants by arguing that any reasons to keep the program are "significantly lessened, if not entirely lacking" with regard to people not already enrolled.

The memo is likely to face legal challenges.

I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd
And I'm hungry like Chad Wolf…

The problem is with you assuming that thats what we "trumpsters" meant. I definitely never said that. All I had said was this repeated pressure on DACA may be what is needed to make Congress act and continue keeping the issue on the front burner. I'm afraid of the issue just going away and being forgotten and DACA just keeping Democrats satisfied for good.

That's what I've been wondering. Can't the California AG lead a legal challenge to the limiting of DACA? Or maybe they can't? Is that what Trump meant when he said SCOTUS has given him "incredible powers."?
