Reasonable price for consular process
 

Hey everyone
I just feel like I’m starting to get ripped off by my lawyer .
Initially she charged me 1200 for the i130 and I was under the impression the 1200 was for everything including consular process
So now that my i130 has been approved and I’m on to the consular process with nvc , she is telling me she charges 2500 plus another 1000 for public charge (new eo by Donny).
I feel like that’s too much and tbh some of it I could probably do myself . What do you all think ? Maybe find another lawyer for that portion?

From personal experience, always get a contract that details every single charge. Not a charge as we go. I will end up paying my attorney 7500. That includes I-130, attending interview with me, I-485, and closing pending immigration court issues. While it is a lot. I felt that was the best way to go considering other things may develop as the case progresses. Other attorneys wanted to charge me 1200 for I-130, 800 for going to interview, 2500 for I-485, and 1000 for every court appearance plus paper work fees. In the short term it seems cheaper but I rather have a contract stating everything will be done for x amount of price. If I were you I would look around and find an attorney that details everything up front.

By the way hasn't the public charge rule been placed on hold pending court litigation? I would get a second opinion.

We started the process on our own..So NVC process for my husband they quoted at $1750. Initially, they told us $3K just for NVC if we just did that part with them start to finish. I-130 we did on our own, and we also already submitted documents to the NVC, so we saved some money there. Starting the process like I-130 is pretty easy to fill out and gather the documents.

I’m paying $3000 for the I-130, I-485, I-944, plus attending the interview etc.

Sounds like you’re getting taken for a ride.

The I-944 is only in an injunction in a few north eastern states (Vermont or something). The national injunction was made more limited in scope.

It’s a pretty easy form to fill out though - it’s just getting the information that’s hard - and your lawyer can’t help with that since they don’t have access to your records.

So as far as nvc forms I should be able to do that on my own right ?
Also, since I’ve had daca since I was 17 I never accrued illegal presence , any forms or anything I got to fill out to not trigger any ban once I leave to my home country for interview ? Or do I just explain it to them there ?
