John Cornyn calls Dick Durbin's DACA bluff

The open-borders lobby has an old and successful playbook: Highlight a few of the most sympathetic cases deserving of amnesty and then write an amnesty policy that covers as many unsympathetic cases as possible.

But Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina are calling the Democrats' bluff when it comes to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals beneficiaries.

Democrats want to use the possible loss of DACA to pass a much wider amnesty for all illegal immigrants who enter the country illegally as minors. This would include those who entered the country five years ago, those pouring across our border today, and those who cross illegally in the future.

Facing a probable court decision that will take legal protections away from current DACA beneficiaries, Cornyn and Thillis have asked Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, to schedule a hearing on narrow legislation that would grant permanent legal protections only to current DACA recipients.

This was not enough for Durbin, who told reporters he was "disappointed" in the Republican offer and declined to schedule such a hearing.

Now that the Democrats have rejected Republicans' honest effort to protect current DACA recipients, it is clear that it is the Democrats' desire to use DACA recipients as cover to achieve maximum amnesty that is to blame for any loss of protection for DACA recipients.

Odd. I’d question what the offer was…

They are using us in this half ass attempt just like the Dems will use us when it's time. Typical political bullshit.

The only suckers bigger than the scum politicians that use us are the optimistic and naive that think something will come of this or that credit the Republicans for doing "something".

We ain't getting shit except more speeches from Durbin. To some of you losers, though, speeches and words matter. LOL

Told you all in the other thread. >__>

There you have it!

Durbin is rejecting the offer.

Dems playing politics with the all or nothing approach.

Watch the Senate Parliamentarian rule out immigration stuff in the reconciliation bill and Dems will just blame GOP.

I was somewhat hopeful Durbin would work with Cornyn. Maybe the bipartisan group is working on a bigger deal? Idk anymore.

Hanen needs to rule asap. Put us out of our misery already

I actually am pleased with the Cornyn-Tillis offer.

Fix DACA now, worry about other groups later.

It seems the Dems don't want to let go of us as political pawns.

Big shocker right? Lol

The main reason behind the "all or nothing approach" is because they want GOP to reject it so that they can walk out saying "We tried, but they rejected it." Their ultimate goal is to pass nothing...

It should be pointed out Cornyn in the letter wrote that it's "expected" border enforcement, everify, and all kinds of other things would be added on to the bill. That would make you think it was an uneven trade. However, for our sake, i wish Durbin had entertained the idea and went with it but sadly he didnt.

My viewpoint is we cannot afford to be choosers. Even with Biden president, look at how little progress we've made. Soon, we will become the aged out dreamers of 2001.

Shrimp dick Durbin. If they really cared they would accept this for now and continue fighting for the rest if they truly support it .

The Democrats have given Cornyn the benefit of doubt many times on immigration relate issues ('Cornyn Con'), and he always breaks the trust. So I am not surprised that they ignored the deal as it stands.
