ine applications for the 2024 Diversity Visa lottery on Wednesday, October 5, at noon EDT. Applicants will have until November 8, noon EDT to submit their applications.

For FY 2024, the State Department will make 55,000 green cards available to foreign citizens.

The Diversity Visa program gives foreigners from countries that typically don’t send many immigrants to the United States the chance to receive a green card. The following countries aren’t eligible to apply for 2024: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.

The State Department recommends applying early in the registration period in case of any website delays due to high demand. Only one submission is allowed per person.

No, you have to have legal status if you are in the US already. It is mostly for people outside of the US. My dad used to apply for this back when we had legal status. We never won lol

You'd need to get DACA before turning 18.5 years old or be able to get an I-601A. Yes, you can actually get a hardship waiver with DV lottery, USCIS even processes these at a special service center to get you through the door.

So I could apply even though I have had a few years out of status in the US?

Assuming that you have an USC or LPR, Spouse or/and Parent(s), yes.

So to be clear, if I don’t have a citizen/resident spouse or parent, I can’t apply (even though I arrived with a visa)?

So basically no :(. If you had US citizen spouse, why bother with this lottery when they can just apply for you?
