Careers/Jobs with DACA

What careers and jobs do you all have? Future plans?

I have the SAME job i got back in 2012 when DACA started. It was easy to get. I was a temp then got hired and got stuck. My introverted and shy personality is why i havent looked for another job. This job and the ppl are "safe" lol

I don't blame anyone but myself for being stuck. Not sure what to do now. Not quitting now b/c of how everything is going in the country but in the long run i am not sure what to do.

Keep getting tempted to go into tech but tbh idk what that really means. I start free bootcamps then I get bored. I know i dont want to be employed by someone forever but self-employment isnt easy.

I have a digital marketing side business but i've been lazy with it b/c i dont believe in myself.

Advice...thoughts...talk to me! :(

I don't think we can help with that, but if you like tech you should try to narrow it down.

"Tech" is a very broad field. What interests you?

- Programming?
- Fixing computers?
- Web development?
- Security (Cyber)?
- Cloud?

There is so much to pick from.

I work as a Global Manager of Technical Operations for some F500 company. I provide 6-month renewable contracts to entry-level analysts and provide them with all the training and resources to be able to function like a Super Jr. Engineer.

My last hires were all pastry chefs and 7 months later they now talk like engineers. Quite fascinating tbh.

I will have open headcounts pretty soon so let me know if you are in the SoCal area, happy to talk.

Things you'll learn from this program:

Linux command line and Service Reliability Engineering stuff

Did you do an in person or online bootcamp? If online, which one?

Paid ones are better but i am not ready to pay for now. Did you have a background in this prior to the bootcamp?

I dont have an official title.. closest thing is admin support for a christian ministry. sounds more important than it really is. just repetitive work everyday.

no growth there. i wish i left years ago.

**Doesnt help being the only one working in my house. so cant quit easily.

I am a data scientist but I have a background in Python, SQL, SAS, and R. I not would recommend quitting your job right now, if you have job security. For most companies, it is last in first out. Wait till the economy settles

care to describe what you do more specifically to help you better? that administrative support thing you said can make you a good fit for data entry, inventory control among many other things.....

pro tip from the heart, if you gonna make a move, monkey branch first and save up an emergency fund in case it doesnt work out in your new job. dont just quit just like that like the previous idi0t that replied.

the tech field is heavily saturated right now, and its about to get worse with the lay offs since you cant afford to fk around and be without a job do what i said previously.

also. focus on preparing a good resume with good references, Indeed and many other places can help you. REMEMBER your resume is the first thing employers are going to look at and you want that to be as good as possible if you are breaking into different industries.

I had planned to do in person since it’s a lot of money but then COVID happened and I ended up doing online. It’s called Ironhack.

Before the Bootcamp i started out using free code camp to get my feet dirty and also udacity which my company paid for. Best decision of my life tbh.
