NY Law Professor: 3.6mln immigration case backlog, DACAs will be added if ends

If DACA to be ended and becomes deportable, all 560k DACAs will be added to already 3.6mln case backlog

Which will take years, might even pass Trump Admin

If you don't have Final Order of Deportation, relax foo

We are not as worried about deportation as we are about losing our jobs.

Exactly. I'm not worried about being deported, definitely worried about losing my job. But don't think new Trump administration with Miller and Homan can push through deportations as fast as possible. I don't think people care about optics and public opinion as much as first Trump 4 years.

I'd also add any VWP overstayers since as part of that you do waive any defense to removal (aside asylum) and can be removed by an expedited order.

Though the biggest concerns for DACAers isn't actually getting physically thrown out. Now you might get lucky and live in a state where you can get a DL without DACA and you might have an employer who will "forget" to ask you for a new I-9, but if not then you're boned.

I am not worried about deportation as well, my biggest concern is my ability to work. I think many people will leave America in the coming years simply because it will become too expensive to retire here. Property taxes are increasing, the price of homes are increasing, cost of living is increasing, social security will be diminished, and no free healthcare. Having $1M in the bank is no longer enough to retire on.

Anyway Trump will target criminals and people with felonies for deportation first

I just renewed my license and it came for the full five years, not tied to my EAD expiration of 05/2025.

I am not worried about any job

Started trading futures in October, already up $5k

There are so many prop firms around

If you're good at trading you can earn a doctor's salary in a short time.

But not anyone can/want to trade. It is very tricky.

Can you elaborate about employers that "forget"? So you can keep working with an expired EAD? Arent you committing a crime by doing that?

We're on the verge of a dictatorship. Due process won't be a thing soon.

It's all fun and games until your brokerage wants a proof of status from you. Also you know, like every other investment strategy, it works until it doesn't, that time when Nvidia ripped like 50 dollars on earnings left Theta Gang with their call credit spreads going long $rope.

I walked out of that one laughing all the way to the bank after turning a smidge under $400 into $10k overnight on FDs.

Not any worse than you did by overstaying or EWI'ing. Technically illegal but all it does is bar you from AOS via non-marriage options under INA 245(c)(2) which guess what, the initial being out of status already did that.

So not like you'd go to jail for it. Also worst that'd happen to the employer is getting fined. ICE hasn't been doing actual raids where La Migra rolls in with vans and riot gear and rounds up the local workers since sometime in Bush's days, these days they send in an auditor, take a look at I-9s, and tell the employer to get rid of those that failed the smell test, and then revisit later and they better be gone by then.
