DHS asks IRS for addresses of people believed to be in U.S. illegally

Undocumented and paid fed taxes?

Guess whose coming at your door?

Internal Revenue Service leaders rejected a recent request from immigration enforcement officials to divulge the home addresses of 700,000 people suspected of being in the country illegally

IRS leaders initially rejected the DHS requests, the people said, and are attempting to negotiate terms to assist immigration enforcement officials without violating tax privacy laws. The memo suggested the creation of a team of IRS officials to review taxpayer data so it is not accessed by DHS personnel.

DHS’s Thursday memo also asked the IRS to deploy dozens of highly skilled IRS auditors and criminal investigators to launch probes of businesses suspected of hiring immigrants not authorized to work in the United States.

Sad that you always sound more pro MAGA than pro anything immigrant, including Dreamers.

Are we celebrating this now? Yes, we are fortunate to have protections currently, but we cannot assume they will last forever. The future is uncertain, and karma has a way of balancing things out. Let's remain humble and refrain from wishing harm upon other groups of immigrants.

Wouldn't this discourage filling out taxes? Exactly, the thing the country needs most if it wants to avoid a $38T disaster?

Things have to get worse before they get better. When reality finally hits them that's when it'll click and everything will get fixed. Maybe a few months after that, when they try the last ditch statement of: "but it wasn't done properly!. They hurt the wrong people! They aren't hurting the right people!"

Just to sum up.

- Many (most?) immigrants paid their taxes wanting to be on the right side of the law. Unless they get legalized, they will not see a penny of their contributions on things like medicare and social security.

- The government knew that there were a lot of money coming from illegal immigrants and encouraged that behavior by assuring everyone that whatever business you do with the IRS stays with the IRS.

- The government accepted all the money coming from illegal immigrants happily and that money helped boost the solvency of programs like medicare and social security.

- This didn't stop right wing demagogues from attacking immigrants as being a cost to the public purse, although the opposite is happening.

- Given this background, when you see that this administration is trying to detect illegal immigrants through the IRS, you realize not only how dishonorable they are, but how penny wise, pound foolish they are. They are breaching trusts from top to bottom, from Ukraine to the lowliest illegal immigrants. Other people and states will adjust accordingly and it will bite them in the ass.

The new republican meta just dropped: all the people at the townhalls protesting and complaining are just paid protesters.

We have a country that is exceptionally fragile. With blame shifting, can't accept criticism, pride, and arrogance at it's limits. Not only that, cowardly congressmem. Allegedly they are afraid of Trump. The minute they stand up is when they get a phone call with death threats. From who? By who? Why aren't they being investigated.

If only more people had a spine. This is how countries slip into oblivion. This is how evil things are done, when good people let it happen. They are inviting misfortune, giving it a seat at the table.

Sad thing is how this country's independence was built up on the "no taxation without representation" mantra. Where are all the staunch Republicans that are supporters of the founding fathers and those that are so quick to bring the constitution and declaration of independence?
Rs are slime ball hypocrites.
