Relative Picked Up By ICE Today
 

My relative, who has been here for over 30 years and no criminal history was picked up by ICE today. They went to his business and one agent scouted in the waiting area until rest of ICE was called. His wife (US Citizen) showed ICE their pending application for sponsorship and they said it was insufficient. ICE is under tremendous pressure to meet their quota. Nobody is safe anymore. Wow. Am sorry to hear the happened so close to home. Do you happen to know how your relative came up on their radar? Did he have a previous deportation order? How far is he in the petition process?
In any case, I hope he’s able to be bonded out and hopefully continue the adjustment process. Hugs and prayers for all affected.

He likely came up because he was in the marriage application process. Yeah there was a deportation order from a long time ago. The petition was 1.5 years in the process. Thank you!

I think for people who don't have the protection of DACA, trying to adjust their status or doing anything that puts them on the radar is dangerous. In the past, even if you had a deportation order on your record but had the ability to adjust your status (no EWI), they would close the case without issue but now they have to get their numbers or they'll get yelled at by the dead eyed bald guy so nobody is safe.

Just got to somehow survive for the next 3 1/2 years.
