Minneapolis offers chance to change terms of debate
"...never mind that even if they succeed in forcing immigration agents to shed their balaclavas, wear body cameras and obtain judicial warrants before barging into people’s homes, those and other similar restrictions will do little to solve the underlying problem that brought on this crisis in the first place: What to do with the estimated 12 million to 14 million unauthorized immigrants living and working in the country.
They could start by giving Trump the credit he deserves for securing the border, along with a promise for tightening up on asylum standards and clearing up the case backlog. Then Democrats could go on to make a credible case for legalizing those who are here without authorization and increasing the number of legal immigrants each year that the economy desperately needs. Swing voters—in particular, Hispanic and Asian voters who voted Republican in recent elections — would likely find the arguments compelling and the bipartisanship refreshing. Dems won't do it because they feel the chaos helps their chances of taking back the House in November, and the GOP won't do it because of "Amnesty".

Re: Minneapolis offers chance to change terms of debate
Both sides love the issue while in more civilized nations* they just deal with it as a paperwork issue, and its like getting a fishing license in terms of political radioactivity. So I dont see them solving the issue.
It gets people out to vote. Republicans love it because they can use it as a way to punish farm workers with the threat of deportation. Then they can then beg daddy government for a bailout. Same reason the fly over south voted to boot illegals off welfare for the 19th time and ended up with even stricter requirements they might not even meet anymore. Oh well, time for fat slobs* to take the jobs back from illegals. Don't forget the sunscreen or you'll turn brown enough to deport. I'm not even kidding, with how they've tried to deport native Americans to Mexico. Lmfao. Democrats love it because they can claim they'll help us out for realiz this time. W00t. And miraculously those votes just come up short or there's some procedural block. Those mean ol republican just won't bring it up for a vote. D: the American legislature is all sorts of fucked and never gets anything done unless you have a miracle trifecta. Which is why nothing gets done. Big example is the daylight savings problem, it almost got solved once but they just don't have the votes or some other bs reason. No man, live your life. Don't wait on them or you'll turn Grey and deadge from waiting. They dont even bother to help citizens. And like I said before, unless you are rich you are irrelevant to congress and government as a whole. I've been pessimistic about a blue wave this November, but others have been optimistic. We might see something change. Either with the situation above forcing the conversation into immigration or later. I just don't see it happening with the current system. I'd love to be proven wrong. And I'd love to see another decade of republican losses. *More civilized nations that have progressed further on the development scale where Healthcare, education, and even housing aren't seen as incredible luxuries for the privileged elites. In comparison the US is still carrying water from the creek while they have running water and plumbing. * a lot of opposition stems from the fact that some of these republicans see themselves as superior for their skin color and the thought of a black man like myself driving a Lexus deeply infuriates them. They are trying to retain an old social hierarchy while doing nothing to better their situation. America is a competitive society and you have to run to win. Look at the case where a school teacher tried to deport a kindergardner. Literally the fox in the hen house. |

Schumer and Jeffries are getting roasted by civil rights orgs and most democratic voters. They offer no real leadership for the moment. The way to solve the problem and protect the public is providing legalization to undocumented workers.

Re: Minneapolis offers chance to change terms of debate
On Wikipedia there's a huge list of altercations of Hispanic citizens and ice agents. Each one is a massive lawsuit and in addition each deported citizen also files massive lawsuits. In the goal of speedy deportations they reduced the accuracy of citizenship checks and they might actually end up getting ICE abolished. Of those billions of dollars, they might end up paying a big portion in lawsuits and in the lawsuit happy states of America this is blood in the water for lawyers.

Out of control trigger happy ice agents tried to kill her and lied about it. ACAB, they are not required to save you. They are not on your side no matter what paperwork you have. The government basically declared open warfare on it's own citizens for the crime of being non- white and if you think "I'm a citizen" or "in white" just wait they are crafty and they'll make a law to target you. If they can do this against others they can do this to you. All they need is an excuse. |
