Internships

Has anyone gotten one?
I know this was mentioned before but I just want more info on this and just to see if anyone has gotten one recently (especially summer research).

Took me about 5 sec when I typed "internship" on search :D

Basically you need to look for non-paid internships that you can use for credit (or not,) through generally smaller organizations.

Re: Internships

let me rephrase that
has anybody gotten an internship (or gotten into a summer research program) at a UNIVERSITY?

Re: Internships

Again, the universities fall into the same route. I've gotten a university internship with basically no problems, although not research/science field.

Narrow it down to the non-paid ones, and then you can usually look at the application to see if they request anything sensitive (ss#, proof of residence) etc.

Re: Internships

So those that pay a stipend will definitely ask for proof of legal residence?

Re: Internships

More than likely they'll ask for a SS# at the least, for tax reasons, and possibly have you fill out an I-9 : which will ask for all kinds of documents.

I would ask someone in your school/do more digging before giving up completely, since there's a slightly possibility they can somehow credit/deduct it from your tuition, if you're enrolled at the same time.

But from my experience, any type of compensation at a university level will require an I-9.

Re: Internships

I'm not sure if your school does this, but some have this site called E*Recruiting through Experience. It's basically a place where employers post jobs and internships and students apply for them via that site or the contact info the employer provides. Sort of like monster.com or careerbuilder.com. It even has a search where you can narrow it down by field, unpaid/paid, city/state, etc. You should look to see if your schools has it. Even if it doesn't I think you can still register and search the site for internships around your area. I have recently applied for unpaid interships and am waiting for responses.

Re: Internships

Oh really? I didn't know about that i'm gonna check with the school
the reason why I asked was because I went to a career fair and schools from all over were giving out tons of info on summer research stuff and most of them ask for us citizenship of permanent residency, but I noticed very few of them don't have that as an eligibility criteria.

Re: Internships

The only thing is there is no guarantee that those employers will ask for an SSN or not... even if it is unpaid sometimes they want legal proof of working in this country. But there is no harm in trying. Good luck!
