FL DREAMies, read this! Regarding DLs for DREAMies under I-130s
Hey guys :),
Just wanted to let you guys knows that as of 10/2/2008, residents of the state of FL that are under I-130 applications are eligible for DL/IDs. I tried it out today and....I GOT AN ID! (A paper receipt but it's the same thing, the card will come in 30 days):)!! Here's my situation: My dad's brother (a USC) petitioned for my father using an I-130. In this application, my dad listed my brothers, my mom, and myself as direct relatives (or something of that nature). Previously, FL only awarded DLs and IDs to the primary beneficiary of the I-130; NOW, they are awarding it to those named on the primary beneficiary's application, which means this will allow a lot more people to receive DLs/IDs! I honestly don't know too much about the law itself, all I know is that my dad's a beneficiary of an I-130 and, through him listing my family on the application as well, we were able to get DLs/IDs. I know people will have tons of questions regarding this, but that's really all I know (sorry :(). Just wanted to give any DREAMie in the same situation as I am a heads up about getting a DL or ID. Hope this helps someone! :) |

Congrats! I was fortunate to keep mine alive/renewed since I was 16, and it practically makes you feel like a citizen :D
Ok maybe not. |

It makes you feel like a USC for a little, until you see a big, fat, bold, red word that says TEMPORARY on it.
Your ID or DL will only last for a year (which is not bad at all), yet upon renewal they want more paperwork and proof that your case is standing and blah blah blah. I feel really bad showing people my ID or DL with that huge TEMPORARY on it, makes it seem like im only a flower in the wind that will soon disappear. |

As far as i knew, with that recent law, residents of FL couldnt get an ID without a SSN.

Sorry its in spanish. But what you said gave me hope though, my dad's current license expires in 2010, and we were thinking having one of his siblings petition him so we can get a year extra. |

Yeah, it doesn't help much (the TEMPORARY stamp is an eye sore) but at least it's something :).
BTW, some of the people at the DMV are just straight up racist. When we went to renew my brothers' DLs one lady had the nerve to say "Oh, so I see they're giving out DLs to illegals now". And then, during my brother's vision exam, the same lady says to him "Oh yeah, you can say the numbers in Spanish if you want. I know how you people don't like to speak English". I was like WTF. Sigh. |

really? that sucks!!! had a racist teacher!! i had her for math(AP Cal ;-] ) and i didn't understand a problem she gave... and you know what she said???.???.!!! "dang ! I'm not used to teaching hispanics!" (*shes African American by the way) then i called the the "B" word but i didn't think she heard me... she did... =/ so i complained to the dean and got her and myself in trouble... =/ she can only teach freshmen now... ha!! and i was suspended..=[ for a day... MAN I WISH THIS LAW WAS IN CALI TOO... =/ |
Re: FL DREAMies, read this! Regarding DLs for DREAMies under I-130s
does it matter if you are over 21? if the primary beneficiary put you under their direct relatives then is it ok if your over 21?

Wow that sounds amazing. I have a question if you guys dont mind answering for me. My mother's brother (my uncle) is now a USC, I was wondering, would he still be able to apply for the I-130 for myself, father and mother even though we are currently on an overstay visa?
