"Anchor babies"
I hate, hate this saying. It makes my blood boil. See, deep down inside this liberal shell, I am a conservative who hates seeing babies being aborted and wants to see a day when all abortions stop. But of course, that's another topic for another day - the point is: I love babies. I want to have one or seven of my own someday with a beautiful (insert state demonym: Hoosier? Californian? God knows.) wife.
When I see people use this term though, I want to scream and tear their hearts out. Why? It's describing fetuses who cannot speak for themselves. This has become a modern day racial slur towards minorities of the immigrant variant: Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and otherwise. Funny thing is, people who use this term are most likely: a) pro-life and/or (most likely and) b) anchor babies or descendants, themselves So what are the people who use this term suggesting? Should these babies be aborted? So all those who use this term - I'd like to tell you to think twice and hard about what you're really saying. |
Re: "Anchor babies"
that terms fires up a huge flame inside everytime i hear it or read it. people could talk about the parent all they want but dont talk about an innocent little baby that doesnt know anything about this corrupt world.

Re: "Anchor babies"
I am totally with you on the pro life, have lots of kids with beautiful wife part :)
but I didn't know anchor baby had anything to do abortion.... I thought anchor baby simply meant that their baby is born here (citizen) which keeps the parents tied to the country in a way... how does abortion come in to the picture??? |
Re: "Anchor babies"
don't be too hard on yourself. the bad thing about defining yourself as a "liberal" or "concervative" is that sooner or later you're going to run into contradictions.
just do what I do and say that you are liberal on certain things and concervative on others. that way people will leave you alone...specially the "liberals" here and in real life, when they found out I was for mccain, they would keep on wanting to discuss politics even when I didn't want to talk about it. I was just like "come on. go get a life and leave me alone" |

Re: "Anchor babies"
The phrase anchor babies refers to undocumented immigrants having children inside the United States and obtaining legal status through them. The emphasis is on the term "anchor" not "babies".
I can understand why you'd be upset but the term is also used extensively in liberal media outlets to describe the debate on immigration. For the large part, there is no animosity directed towards the babies but towards their use in obtaining legal status. Its the legal aspect of having U.S.-born children. The term "anchor" is vilified in the phrase, not the "babies" part. You'll also see the term used in government reports and Congressional papers. I can understand why you're upset but the large focus is on "anchor" not the babies. |
