I think it would be precarious to apply to a college in Hawaii if you'll have to travel back & forth between the mainland & the island state.Although Hawaii has one international airport & many other airports you should expect a reasonable CBP presence all the time you fly including from island to island within the state.

Not only that,despite being a liberal state, ICE seems to be doing a few immigration operations there.Hawaii should also not be considered like any other state since you'll be living on an island.I'm not profiling,but here in the lower 48 in states such NY,FL or CA you can easily blend in because of the easily very large immigrant populations but I don't think the same can be said for Hawaii,unless you happen to be of Asian descent......but these are just my concerns with anyone who should be thinking of traveling there.
