I'm certain that the path isn't just limited to one branch, that would be absurd.

Joining the military doesn't automatically put you in the middle of a battlefield in the infantry division, I have lots of friends in the Navy (whom the word deployment means going on a ship for few months,) and the Airforce (sitting on desk doing IT stuff all day.)
