Okay sexy peeps, I’ve compiled a list of Senators who are instrumental to our victory. There’s a certain priority hierarchy based on meticulous political observations, DAP vote tally (which you’ve all gracefully contributed to) and recent news of the now famous Air Force One calls made by President Obama to likely GOP supporters (co-sponsors?).

It’s really important that we have as many callers as we can possibly assemble because we don’t want the same ten people calling over and over again. Perhaps someone at DreamActivist could help us get the grassroots involved this time (I’m looking at you, S.Aran). I know firedoglake.com helped with the petition to get Scott Brown to talk to the immigrant youth, and that was certainly a success.

Now without further ado, here’s the list:

George LeMieux (Florida)
(202) 224-3041
32801, 33166, 33304, 33901

Dick Lugar (Indiana)
(202) 224-4814

FAQ

1) What should I say?

Come up with your own message. These staffers are there to listen to you, so don’t feel rushed and definitely take your time. However, if you freeze at the thought of freestyling it, here’s something to get you started: Hi, I’m calling Senator ____ to ask for his/her support on the upcoming immigration reform bill. The current immigration system is outdated and inefficient, and we need to fix it NOW in a comprehensive, fair, and humane manner. Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

2) Will they track my number down? Call ICE? Send me on a one-way trip to Senor Frog’s?

No, these people have better things to do than go through all that trouble (Mark Foley still hangs around from time to time and those BJs aren’t getting performed by themselves). Even the lunatics calling every single day, threatening to bomb Nancy Pelosi’s house don’t get traced —my guess is all traces would lead to the Bachmann household— so why should you?

3) What if they ask for my address?

I’ve been calling Congress for a very, very long time (try saying that in front of your friends, and see how quickly they give you the side-eyes) and I’ve rarely been asked to disclose such information. There are instances, however, in which they will ask you for your zip code. I’ve provided local zip codes for each of our target Senators; nevertheless, you are neither required, nor advised to provide them if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. Even if you live in a different state, you can still contact out-of-state Senators and ask them to vote a certain way. One word of caveat, though: I personally spoke with one of the staffers and asked him how they tabulated the calls, particularly when it comes to out of state callers. His answer: they do consider them, but only after they’ve considered the calls placed by their own constituents. In other words, they’re not worth as much. Again, the decision is up to you, but bear in mind this information when making your final decision.
