An associate degree in Communications or English major is a joke and these associates of communications or English don't deserve a green card.

Well thats where you have an issue, many community colleges offer 2-3 year degrees that would allow you to start working as a RN/LPN/CNA, dental hygienist, dental assistant, physicians assistant, lab tech, phlebotomy, early childhood education, computer science etc...
These are referred to as Associates in Applied Science. (AAS)
They could extended the Military time so it doesn't sound so ridiculous to those who know a little more about military contracts. All military contracts are 8 years. But there are variants you can choose in contracts. The most common is 4 years active, 4 years inactive (pretty much as an inactive you won't be called upon unless America is in a massive war and gets to the point where the reserves are being drained and the National Guard is hardly a supplement. (WWII, for example, the National Guard made up 40% of the US fighting force). However, certain jobs in the military require different minimum years active. 11B (Infantry) in the US army can do the traditional 4 years active 4 inactive. However, a 68W (Health Care Specialist) has to commit a minimum of 5 years active, 3 inactive to make up for the year spent in training. So requiring someone to complete a minimum of 4 years active in a contract (person may get more depending on MOS, or job.) with an
honorable discharge at the end of enlistment.
Just remember the Army isn't exclusively infantry and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). The Army alone has over 150 jobs to choose from, and in the Airforce only 4% of the people serving fly planes. There is a a lot of variety to choose from in the military.
For those who ONLY pursue an associates degree (AA or AS not an AAS) community service hours should be included as a supplement. Those who pursue an Bachelors should not have to.
