I am premed and have applied to med schools this year. I was able to get a volunteer opportunity at an urban hospital. I was asked for an ss# and after being turned down at many other places, I resorted to using my identification number that my cuny college had provided me. I ended up working there for a year. Now I am crossing my fingers and hoping that I'll get in this cycle. And to reiterate what's been said earlier, there is no such thing as a premed major, you take the following classes: 1 year general chem w/ lab, 1 year organic chem w/lab, 1 year physics w/ lab, 1 year biology w/ lab, 1 year calculus(not necessary, might be requirement for some schools), and 1 year english. You can major in philosophy and still be premed. Good luck to those who choose this path, for people like us this career path is the hardest of all. BTW I am in nyc.
