Yes - a college degree is required for most professional careers, but there are a number of great careers that do not require one. I'm not dissuading anyone because
having a degree is always better than not having one, but not having one doesn't relegate you to a barren wasteland of McDonald's jobs either.
Highly specialized IT jobs do not require degrees since they care about your knowledge - but this may take experience to assure them you know what you are talking about (try Business Intelligence and Data Analysis)
Vocational careers (electrician, plumber, etc) do not require degrees, but they do require licenses, etc.
Sales - probably the single best way around a degree plus many companies that offer commission only sales positions do so on a 1099 option
