Amoney3 has it right on the money.It is strange to say,but your opportunity[specific to you] to stay legally in the United States seems much larger abroad than if you are here.I'd recommend seriously going after Australian citizenship[due to some specific visas you can apply for in the US] gain some experience in the field and perhaps you might be back with some of the large aerospace giants here in the US such as Boeing,Lockheed or an airline to sponsor you.
