You can apply for selective service until you are 32 years old. Between 26-32 it will be REJECTED, however you can still register for it (youre supposed to for future immigration purposes) and you'll have a letter saying you applied but it was rejected which is what you will need in the future.

He also said that in his 25 years of practice, the only time he had to deal with selective service was for citizenship apps.
