It will be a very good proof of your identity besides your passport. It's not a requirement but on the other hand it's quite easy to go and translate it at your consulate. Me for example, I didn't necessarily need my birth certificate translated cause I had my old passport and my current passport copies, but I wanted to make it easier on who ever reads over my application and show them I'm serious about the entire process by providing all documents.
