Is it necessary for me to rescind the number? I called the IRS and they said since I have never filed taxes, the moment I do it with my new ssn they will link up the itin with the ssn. I am confused because it seemed to me that I knew more about the topic than the rep that was helping me. After I mentioned that I had seen online that I needed to rescind the number by sending a letter she agreed with me and gave me an address but it doesn't even have a PO Box number or anything, just Austin, TX because she said it is a service center. Help please!

The ITIN letter that you get when you first obtain your ITIN, clearly states you must rescind your ITIN once get you get a SSN. So send the letter as instructed in the original post. Also go to your bank and let them know about your new SSN so they can update your records.
