So according to this article, Ruth Johnson has said that she will continue to deny licenses. So I don't know if this is her final decision or what?
Immigrant advocates in metro Detroit say that new guidelines released this month by a federal agency mean that young immigrants who qualify to live and work in the U.S. under a new program should be allowed to get driver's licenses.
But Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said Monday that she will continue to deny licenses to immigrants who qualify under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program the Obama administration created in June. For now, Michigan will continue to be one of a handful of states that deny driver's licenses to DACA immigrants.
"We have not made any changes," said Johnson spokeswoman Gisgie Gendreau. She added that "our attorneys are reviewing it."
