To quote GW, you're using fuzzy math.
http://www.epodunk.com/top10/per_pupil/ The state that I spent the majority of my High School years is now at $7500. In 2013 dollars. Back in 1986, it was a lot less. How much less? Well look here:
http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=66
1986-87 3,682
1990-91 4,902
1995-96 5,689
Entire year 1987: $3,682
88: $3,682
89: $3,682
90: 4,902
91: 4902
92: 4902
93: 4902
So my entire public education cost the "government", Federal, State, County, City etc : $30,654 soooo 3 times that is about $100k
Of course, that is not adjusted for inflation, but neither was the taxes that were paid. for 5 out of those 7 years, I was living in a house by a child-less relative who was paying his property taxes and had paid property taxes for nearly 30 years without getting a penny back. That more than offsets the cost of my education. For the other 2 years, I lived in an apartment. apartments also include taxes in their rent.
So that leaves about $70k. In the last 20 years, you're asking me whether I have paid $70k in taxes? The answer is yes, absolutely.
But really, what's the point that you are trying to make? We're all freeloaders? That I'm a hypocrite? Don't be shy.
