When I applied for DACA I really thought I wouldn't get approved because of this absence but eventually I figured out that they didn't really care about what you did before 2007. It was confirmed when I got an RFE for my presence after 2007.
So for all those wondering how its possible for someone to leave and come back, I believe it depends on every individual case...

Damn! I was wondering when did I wrote this? Cos your situation is exactly like mine.
I too overstayed for 2 years to graduated high school here, then I went back to my country without any intention to come back here. I stayed there for almost 2 years, and my family all moved here so I have to come too. Fortunately, all of these happened before 2007. I also came back into the US legally. (Yes, it's possible.)

My case was approved, but it took 6 months. During the 6 month period, I was thinking I was done. Thankfully, whoever handled my case is kind enough to let me go.
