It is obvious to me though purely through anecdotal evidence that undocumented workers have given many more times whatever resources they are accused of using up.
Coming with that frame of mind, you can see how I find the current immigation bill appalling.
I mean what do you know in 13 yrs that you cannot find out in 5yrs? Whats the point of making people serve a mandatory sentence of more than a decade, if its not punishing them. So if we are intent on punshing undocumented workers, should they levy a punishment that is disproportionate to the crime? After all we broke one law to uphold many others. I don't know maybe am wrong, but my gut tells me we deserve much better treatment than this current bill affords us.
We should not be punished and derided. Our stories should be celebrated as exemplifying what this country says its all about.

But man, they got us begging for anything at the master's table no matter how absurd, unfair and hypocritical the deal we are getting is. Its alright though, at least I know we favor it as a community. At least I'll have company while we wait in line for 'America' to validate our rights to earn a living.
I'll take it, I just don't like it.

I kind of understand it, but as far as I know everyone who came here illegally came with the full knowledge that there existed the chance they would never even be given an opportunity for legalization. They also understood that they might be treated like second class citizens and still took it. They knew full well that they were going to pay taxes if they worked for a company and would not see those benefits of the taxes they paid.
Now you're saying that they suffered and struggled through it and deserve better. Most people who don't qualify for the DREAM Act 5 yr path should be happy at any damn chance they get. You realize that 13 yrs is still faster for most from many countries like Mexico and the Philippines than the standard path that has a wait time of 19 yrs right? Not only that but they get to stay with their kids in the USA. I bet you most are grateful if it passes instead of complaining about it.
That is why I'm saying if you want to debate why it's not fair then feel free to let me know, but it's a pretty fair deal for most people. Hey, I went into another country through non proper channels and they gave me a tough path but a chance to live there with my kids is what is going to cross most people who don't qualify for the DREAM Act. I hope you realize most USC want to get the message across that this is a tough but fair opportunity. It's not a mandatory thing they have to take. They can decide they don't like it and go back to their country if that is what they want.
They also distinguish the difference between minors and people who full well understood the consequences which is why I don't see why you think this bill isn't being fair to people. That was a critical distinction that should be made and was made.
