Did anyone seriously think he would be convicted? I mean come on, they first wanted to do first degree murder, but couldn't because the grand jury would throw the case out, so they downgraded down to second degree so they would bypass the grand jury. They constantly showed the school ID picture of Martin, rather than a more current one.
