So I myself have been thinking of next year's election a lot as my DACA renewal is dependent on the next person elected as President. So thinking of Trump, I doubted he had any chance, but as of late his poll numbers keep rising. So at this point i have to accept a reality with him possibly being in white house. I honestly do not see him cancelling DACA for us as I feel he is just taking advantage of this anti-immigrant wave to get elected. Also, with all the nasty things he's said about Hispanics in the US, i can just see Hillary running ads against him which will rile up all Hispanics to vote against him in the general election. Recall that even Mitt Romney got barely 27% of the Hispanic vote after being mildly against immigration reform (no nasty remarks). Trump doesn't look to get too many votes the way he's bad mouthing Hispanics every day. The rise in voting eligible Hispanics is drastically rising, so his advisers will likely tell him to allow DACA renewals if he's in office. Remember, every first term president plays it safe, not doing anything extremely radical, because he/she wants to get re-elected. Trump will want to be re-elected if he does make it into the white house. Now worst case scenario being addressed, the GOP is not really behind Trump. The big GOP donors, a la Koch brothers etc., are gearing up to fund (read: $1 Billion) and get Jeb Bush into the white house. Hence why the GOP is asking Trump to sign the pledge not to run as an independent if he is not nominated by the GOP. They know that he's the worst person for the GOP due to his divisive talking points. They're dying for him to somehow mess up bad and get knocked off. Also keep in mind public polling does not dictate if he is the awarded the individual votes from each state, to win the GOP nomination. There are a # of people in each state that control the GOP nomination process and hold the key to the votes themselves.
My last sound advice to anyone on this site who is a beneficiary of DACA, please go out and volunteer your personal time for the Democratic nominee (likely Hillary) next year when the elections start. A few hours a week, can go long in all of us being able to breathe with a sigh of relief and enjoy the normal life of going to work, driving with a legal drivers license and supporting our family members who were not lucky enough to fall into DACA. You have the power to make a change next year! Stand up and show who has the power folks....
