They can sponsor you for a H1B or to get a GC under EB2 or EB3 if you have the appropriate qualifications. The problem arises when you need to leave the country to get your visa stamped in the consulate. You'd trigger the 10 year ban and have to apply for the waiver in your country.
The the provisional waiver has been
approved, you might want to look into it, given you can prove hardship and can qualify for an immigrant visa. It will also be super interesting to see USCIS come up with a concrete definition of hardship, hopefully a lot of us can get a GC through this.
